How Dance Studio Photography Works
Our Unique Method
Upon booking, we will schedule a site inspection to survey the available space and identify any challenges. We will discuss how to guide dancers in their poses to ensure the highest level of performance. Organizers will provide an accurate class list and parents’ contact information.
Once communication is established, parents will be informed of their purchasing options. Depending on the studio’s wishes, this may be done via prepayment envelopes or online ordering.
On Picture Day
We arrive early to set up and test our equipment. We have uploaded your class lists into our system and pre-registered all students. Each dancer receives a name card with a unique code, ensuring easy access to their portraits. Parents can use the code to gain private access to their child’s photos online to make a purchase.
Delivery
Once the purchasing deadline has passed, portraits will be processed and delivered to your studio for distribution. Portraits are typically delivered in 4-6 weeks from the day of the session.

Large studios should schedule sessions to take place during a “dance picture week”. During this week, dancers will arrive to class in their performance attire, ready to pose for the camera.
It’s a good idea for the studio to have experienced tween or teen dancers on hand to assist younger dancers with their costumes, shoes, and dance poses.
When arranging group photos, keeping it simple is often best, particularly for younger dancers. The primary goal is to ensure that every dancer’s face is clearly visible. Typically taller dancers are positioned in the back and shorter ones in the front. From there, you can organize the group to showcase costumes, highlight featured soloists, and achieve a balanced composition.
For a more creative approach, advanced planning is crucial. Creating a visual layout of each dance group will streamline the process, allowing for slight pose adjustments while maintaining efficiency and encouraging a visually dynamic final result.
Yes, I do photograph recitals, but I focus on the dress rehearsal nights. This allows me the freedom to move around, capture better angles, and avoid disrupting the audience. Please keep in mind that there is a fee for my time and expertise, as well as the cost of a collection of web-sized digital files. Just as a reminder, individual dance photos are to be scheduled for a different day.
